Our Partners

Anchors are large organisations that are unlikely to relocate and have a significant stake in their local area.

They have sizeable assets that can be used to support their local community’s health and well-being and tackle health inequalities, for example, through procurement, training, employment, professional development, and buildings and land use.  The membership of the network continues to grow, our main Anchor partners helping to drive change are listed below:

The Anchor Charter Members:

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHSFT

A University teaching hospital full of hard working and dedicated staff providing community and hospital services across the Morecambe Bay area, a geographic area covering a thousand square miles in south Cumbria and north Lancashire.

Lancashire & South Cumbria NHSFT

Provides physical health, mental health and well-being services for the whole of Lancashire and South Cumbria with a population of around 1.8 million people.

Lancaster City Council

Lancaster City Council is responsible for making many important decisions on behalf of local people of Lancaster District. Strategic decisions, budget setting and performance monitoring are the responsibility of the elected councillors.

Westmorland and Furness Council

Westmorland and Furness Council is England’s third largest unitary authority by geographical area. They are committed to building strong links with parish and town councils, local community groups and other organisations.

Lancaster University

Lancaster University is among the best places to study in the UK, ranked Top 10 in the Complete University Guide 2024. Lancaster has partnerships with institutions around the world, opening up a world of opportunities to study, travel and volunteer abroad.

University of Cumbria

The University of Cumbria is a public university in Cumbria, with its headquarters in Carlisle and other major campuses in Lancaster, Ambleside, and London. The university was ranked 1st in the northwest for teaching and student experience in 2024.

Lancaster and Morecambe College

LMC provides technical, professional and creative education, focused on providing young people and adults with the skills and knowledge to enable them to progress into employment or on to further study. They work closely with local employers to shape every curriculum pathway, ensuring our graduating students are highly employable with the skills that local businesses need.

Kendal College

Provides outstanding education and training opportunities that are responsive to the needs of our students and our communities. They help develop our students to deliver positive economic and sustainable environmental change both now and in the future.

BAE Systems

BAE systems design, build, test, and commission the most advanced submarines ever operated by the Royal Navy, as well as state of the art combat systems and equipment. With our main base in Barrow we also operate satellite sites around the UK employing around 10,000 people and working closely with a wide range of suppliers. With a proud history we are currently working on the Astute and Dreadnought class submarines for the Royal Navy.

Siemens Energy

At the 11,000 sq ft purpose built factory in Ulverston, Siemens Energy design, manufacture, test and install world class subsea connector and measurement technology for the oil and gas industry and have acquired an enviable global reputation for the manufacture and delivery of our products.

Other Members

There are other partners engaged in the work of the Bay Anchor Network but not formally signed up to the charter, e.g. Lancashire County Council, CVS etc.

There are plans to extend the networks membership in 2024-2025 to include anchor partners within the Eden geographical footprint.
